Point of view is the way the author chooses how the narrator tells the story. There are three types of point of views in writing a story.
2nd PersonWhen the author uses "you" instead of he, she, or I. It feels like the story is about you. Choose Your Own Adventure books are in second person.
Example: "You felt like someone was watching you," |
1st personFirst person involve words like "I" or "we" to describe things in the story. Everything happening in the story is from the character, or narrators point of view. There will be no "mean while on the other side of the house..." or anything like that because the character is telling the story how they see it.
Example: "I felt like someone was watching me," |
3rd PersonThe author writes with pronouns like "he," "she," "they", "it", or a name. There is no "you" or "I", except in dialogue.
The most commonly used type of third person is Limited/Subjective. The author will get you inside of the main characters head, a lot like first person point of view. But can still talk about events that the main character hasn't seen themselves. For example, in this type of story, they could say "meanwhile on the other side of the house...". Example: "She felt like someone was watching her," |
